“Very disrespectful”- Manchester United icon jumps to the defence of Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez

Andy Cole has jumped to the defence of Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, while speaking to Casinos En Ligne (h/t Liverpool Echo) has heaped to the defence of under-firing Darwin Nunez and claims how, through social media, everyone wants to give him a piece of advice.

Nunez moved to Liverpool from SL Benfica in the summer and there were a lot of expectations on the player straight away due to the huge price tag and also the impressive season he had with the Portuguese club scoring 34 goals in all competitions

Things have not been exactly the same since his move to Liverpool and certainly, a red card in his debut home game against Crystal Palace did not help.

While everyone is aware of the potential that the forward possesses, he does look like a rough diamond who needs refinement in his game. However, Cole believes

that no one is aware of what is going through an individual’s mind and should not be made fun of him if the form is not good.

“To be fair I wouldn’t give him any advice. Everyone on social media wants to give him advice. Someone said they put him in the same bracket as me and I said to myself I find that very, very disrespectful.”

“Nunez is a totally different player to me. He tried to mention that he gets himself in positions but doesn’t finish off his chances.

“You never know what’s going through a certain individual’s mind, what he’s struggling with. He’s robust, he’s strong, he gets in great positions but for some reason his finishing is lacking at the present moment.”

It should not be noted that currently, Nunez is not able to convert the chances but at the same time, is finding himself in good goalscoring positions pretty often.

That does say something about the instinctive nature of the player which is crucial for a centre-forward and the return of 10 goals in 23 appearances so far is not a bad return.

One has to take into account the fact that it is a big shift for the player, who was playing in Spanish Tier 2 League some seasons back. Hence, time should be given to the Uruguayan and as compared to the initial phase, he definitely looks calmer, composed and settled into the environment.

Hopefully, his cheeky goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers would give him the much-needed confidence boost to build on and get some consistency. There are many who are backing him and it is because they see that he has what it takes to be truly world-class.
