Atalanta make major Teun Koopmeiners transfer claim amid Liverpool interest
Liverpool FC’s apparent interest in Atalanta’s Dutch midfielder Teum Koopmeiners is now so intense that the Serie A club’s sporting director sees himself involved in a few talks. He has categorically revealed that there is no concrete interest from the Reds when it comes to the 24-year-old.
The player recently talked about his links to Liverpool and said that it is ‘nice’ to see his name attached to a club like ours, but also mentioned how he is 100% focused on Atalanta at the moment, as he should, not only in a diplomatic way.
The central midfielder, in this season for Atalanta only, has five goals and two assists for Atalanta in the league in 17 appearances including a hat-trick against Torino. Goal contributions from midfield are something so alien to Liverpool in recent seasons. Ever since the departure of Phillipe Coutinho, the number of G/A from the midfielders at Anfield saw a significant drop in numbers.
“There’s nothing concrete with Liverpool. We welcome the interest, but he’s one of our players.”
Could Koopmeiners move to the Reds?
Could something be brewing as the Sporting Director did not certainly rule out the possibility of a move? Him ‘welcoming’ the interest from Liverpool could be suggestive of the fact that they might be interested in letting him go only for the right price.
Following the additional responsibilities given to Liverpool Assistant Coach Pep Lijnders in team recruitment, we could see an influx of Dutch players at the club, very similar to how Wolverhampton Wanderers have a lot of Portuguese players in their squad.
In any case, there is no denying the fact that the Reds need to sign more than just one midfielder beyond doubt. With the age factor of the current lot coming in along with their shaky form, it is absolutely essential for the Reds to sign a player or two in the middle of the park to sustain themselves in the long run.
In such times, Koopmeiners certainly looks like a good fit for the Reds, and hopefully, the links actually end up with the Reds signing someone instead of doing nothing in the transfer window and then regretting it later on.
