In a major boost to their transfer plans, Liverpool’s primary transfer target Jude Bellingham now seems ‘convinced’ to join the Reds next season. Naturally, Borussia Dortmund will want a huge fee for their star player and the Merseysiders need to finance the deal sooner than later to ensure that rival clubs do not re-enter the fray for the 19-year-old.
According to SportBILD’s Christian Falk who spoke to Caught Offside [h/t Liverpool Echo], the Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp somehow convinced the former Birmingham City midfielder to join forces with him for next season and beyond.
Any deal with Die Schwarbelgen would set Liverpool back by a fee of around £130m, but that is certain when we talk about a player of Jude’s calibre and the potential impact he could have on Liverpool’s struggling midfield and how his departure could potentially affect Dortmund as well.
Of course, the other club in the race for the player will not stay quiet and Real Madrid could be in the driving seat if Liverpool does not manage to pay Edin Terzić’s side a substantial amount of money for Bellingham.
The 19-year-old has nine goals and four assists in 27 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions this season and is certainly an extremely important part of their squad. Keeping in mind the 5% sell-on clause Birmingham City have in Jude’s deal, the Reds will also need to offer an appropriate fee for the player.
With the inconsistencies on show from the Reds this season, it is imperative that the club actually dip into the transfer market and get on board some world-class players who can also feature in the long-term future for Liverpool as most starters for the club are over the age of 31.
To ensure a smooth transition, Liverpool need to get on board a number of midfielders or else we could see the club dip so badly that it could become hard for the club to bounce back towards the top of the table eventually.
By bringing in youthful and dynamic midfielders like Bellingham and other transfer targets the Reds have on their radar, Liverpool can counteract the effects of age in the current squad and maintain a level of competitiveness for the foreseeable future.
