Romano: There is no chance of Arthur leaving Liverpool in January
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is no chance that Juventus loanee Arthur Melo will leave Liverpool during the January window.
The Brazil international arrived at Anfield on a season-long loan from Juventus by the deadline of the summer window and is yet to make a start for Liverpool.
Arthur came on as a substitute against Napoli in the Champions League in Naples. He has been injured since October, hence we have not seen him even in first-team squads. He is scheduled to come back to full fitness next month.
Given what Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said in the press conference ahead of the Brighton game, it feels like the club won’t sign anyone in the January transfer window.
What that means is that despite glaring issues in midfield, the manager has to make do with what he has and try and fight for the results in the second half of this season.
The Reds have no intention to keep Arthur beyond this season. But, given our midfield situation, it makes no sense to let him go now as well. The former Barcelona midfielder is a decent central midfielder who can do a job in certain games for the team.
We can hope that the Brazilian is back fit soon and inspired to train well and show us how good he can be. He still has a chance to play a key part in this challenging season for us.
Liverpool play Chelsea on Saturday after claiming a much-needed win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday. Considering our position in the league, almost every game is a must-win now.
