Sir Alex Ferguson lauds Jurgen Klopp ahead of the Liverpool boss’s 1000th game in management
Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp, when he walks out to manage the Reds against Chelsea at Anfield will be in charge of the 1000th game in his managerial career so far. The German coach started his career at Mainz in 2001, the club where he played for most of his senior career.
In 2008, Klopp took over from Thomas Doll as the manager of Borussia Dortmund and 178 wins, 69 draws, and 70 losses later, the 55-year-old signed a contract with Liverpool in October 2015 to replace Brendan Rodgers at the Reds.
Fast forward to the present day, there is no trophy that the English top-tier has to offer that the German has not already won with Liverpool. A Premier League title in 2020, UCL winners in 2019, FA Cup and League Cup winners in 2022 apart from the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. Klopp has won it all with Liverpool, and he has certainly transformed the team threefold. He has almost had a Bill Shankly kind of impact on the Reds and long may it continue.
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who is close friends with Klopp had a word of encouragement and congratulated the Liverpool gaffer on his milestone and here is what he said via The Express:
“I’m delighted to welcome Jurgen Klopp to the LMA 1000 club,”
“Jurgen is undoubtedly one of the most gifted managers in world football and the dedication and passion which Jurgen brings to the role is inspiring to anyone aspiring to a career in football management.”
“The many trophies he has already won in his career, including in recent seasons the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool, confirm his status amongst football’s elite.”
Jurgen joins the Elite 1000 club
Jurgen joins Sir Alex, Jose Mourinho and Sir Bobby Robson on the elite list of 1000 games as a manager and that is certainly good company there for the German. However, milestones apart, it is a tough moment presently for the Reds as they are in the ninth position on the table and need to up their game sooner than later in order to finish in any of the UCL spots.
The way Klopp will manage this situation at the Reds will certainly be a testament to his greatness as a manager. In a transitioning phase, Liverpool undeniably need to do something absolutely crazy from this point onwards to march towards the top four in the league charts.
One game at a time and Chelsea at Anfield will for sure play its part in how the Reds shape the rest of their campaign. We are just coming off a win against Wolves in the FA Cup and nothing would be better than carrying on the winning momentum.
