Liverpool interested in signing Swedish prospect Johan Bangsbo
According to Swedish news outlet FotbollTransfers via The Express, Liverpool are showing interest in signing Swedish centre-back Johan Bangsbo. The 19-year-old is currently playing for IFK Göteborg in the first division of his country’s domestic league. As per the same report, the Reds are looking to get on board young defenders in the coming transfer windows.
That could be one of the reasons why Rhys Williams came back to Liverpool prematurely after the Reds recalled him from Blackpool. However, speaking of Bangsbo, the player has 20 appearances across all competitions for his club scoring a goal and getting an assist.
Bangsbo, who stands at 6’2″, has been impressing scouts with his physicality and aerial ability. He has also been praised for his reading of the game and his ability to play out of the back. The Sweden U21 international also has three caps for the youth sides.
Interest in Bangbo
Sensible, to say the least as the first-choice pair of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are both 31 and Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez could chip in for the pair in the long term. But as we know, having depth can never go wrong, can it?
Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams provide the extra backup but with pieces of news talking about Nat wanting to move on from the Reds in search of more game time might mean we would need to get a player to fill in his shoes.
Furthermore, Bangsbo’s youth would give him time to adapt and grow within the team, and the coaching and guidance of Jurgen Klopp could help him to reach his potential faster. He would also have the opportunity to learn from experienced and successful players like Matip and Van Dijk.
