Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp calling Borussia Dortmund daily to enquire about Jude Bellingham
It is no secret that the Reds need the services of a new midfielder or two sooner than later. Jude Bellingham is the top transfer target for Liverpool and their pursuit of the player will easily cost them £131m or even more.
His contract at Borussia Dortmund lasts until 2025 (Transfermarkt) and this season, the player is on top form scoring at will. In 23 appearances across all competitions this season, he has 10 goals and four assists to his name. That is certainly a lot more than the zero-goal contributions Liverpool midfielders have made this season.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking at the 19-year-old and thinking that he could certainly be the elixir to Liverpool’s problems this season and could feature for the Reds in the long term as well. Moreover, renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has some news on Klopp and Jude too.
Romano exclusively spoke to House of Champions [h/t Liverpool Echo] and told them that Klopp is obsessed with the player and is calling almost every day to ask about updates on the situation of Bellingham. The player apparently does not want to sign an extension with the Bundesliga giants, opening the door for an exit in the summer.
Liverpool need Bellingham
With Real Madrid and Manchester City also in the race for the player, it is commendable that the manager is proactively taking it upon himself to ensure that any updates on Bellingham’s situation reach him first. It seems like the manager has finally understood the need for a new midfielder after repeatedly denying the necessity of reinforcements in press conferences.
However, it is not that Liverpool need Bellingham because players are out of form. The contracts of three midfielders including Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner run out in June later this year, and we need reinforcements.

It is clear that the Reds need to sign Bellingham at all costs. The team’s poor performances so far this season have highlighted the need for a fresh injection of talent and energy in the midfield.
The former Birmingham City midfielder has proven himself to be a highly skilled and mature player, despite his young age, and would be a valuable addition to the Liverpool squad.
