Real Madrid offer a new contract to Liverpool target Marco Asensio

According to Marca (h/t Liverpool Echo), European champions Real Madrid have offered a new contract to Spanish winger and Liverpool target Marco Asensio.

Asensio has been continuously linked with the Reds in the last few months. The 27-year-old’s current deal with Madrid expires in the coming summer (Transfermarkt).

So, unless the La Liga giants agree on a new contract, he will become a free agent in the coming summer transfer window. On that note, the report revealed that while both Madrid and Asensio are happy with the length of the new deal, the latter is looking for money.

It remains to be seen whether Madrid would agree on fulfilling the demands of the Spain international, or risk losing him for free in the summer.

Liverpool have signed a number of right-footed attackers who operate either as a number nine or on the left wing in the past couple of years. Although Mohamed Salah rarely gets injured and mostly produces the goods (touchwood), the Reds could do with another left-footed attacker in the squad. Harvey Elliott is there but he is too young at the moment.

For that reason, getting someone like Asensio makes a lot of sense. The former Mallorca player is a left-footed right winger who can play either as a number 10 or lead the line. He is a top player who may not get regular game time in the Spanish capital.

Talking about this season, the 27-year-old has played only 319 minutes of league football, scoring a goal and assisting three. Injuries have not helped him in recent seasons, but he is fit and available now.

Hence, if the wage valuation is not met between Madrid and the player, Liverpool should resurface their interest in him and look to sign him for free in the summer.
