Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson feels ‘sorry” for the fans after the Brighton loss

The FA Cup loss against Brighton on Sunday ends Liverpool FC’s run in all domestic cup competitions this season. The Res are certainly not at their best season and need to improve their game on many fronts.

However, compared to the Premier League encounter against the same opposition at the same ground a fortnight ago, the changes in attitude were visible and it is certainly a step in the right direction but given the state of affairs at the club, Liverpool need immediate results.

Moreover, Andrew Robertson led the team out in the game against the Seagulls marking his first game as Liverpool captain. The Scottish international spoke about how disappointing the result was after the game and also how he felt “sorry” for the fans as well.

Speaking to ITV after full-time via the club’s official website, here is what Robbo told:

“We need to [improve] quick. We keep saying that, but it doesn’t help the fans.

“I feel sorry for them, obviously the way we’re putting on a show just now.

“Behind the goal was packed today [and] the fans were unbelievable. We let them down again and we’re obviously disappointed to be out the cup.”

Captain Robbo

Feeling sorry for the fans is one thing but the team reflecting the same in their performances is another. Apart from a few names, no player yesterday showed the desire and hunger to go through to the next round of the tournament.

Moreover, with regular starters like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson not performing at the levels one expects from them, the team looks in absolute shambles and both these players need some rest and a new player or two to come in and take their place at the club.

In a team with absolute superstars like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Robbo on the pitch but still 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic being the best player on the pitch for long stretches of the game speaks levels of the performances of the senior players in the team.

Up next, we play Wolves (A) in the Premier League and hopefully, we get our first league win of the new year against the Midlanders. Crazy to think that the Reds have not yet won a league game in 2023 which talks a lot about how the Reds are struggling to make ends meet in this campaign.
