David Thompson hits out at two Liverpool players following Brighton loss

Former Reds hero David Thompson lashes out at two Liverpool players after FA Cup loss to Brighton

Trent Alexander-Arnold against Brighton in the FA Cup was among the better players for Liverpool. Even though was dribbled past a few times in the game, he made a few important clearances including one from the goal line.

Former Red David Thompson took to Twitter to talk about how Trent did not have any support down the right-hand side and that is why the player was extremely vulnerable to counter-attacks.

Moreover, he called out two players for not helping out the Scouser and made it a point to talk about Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita, who according to Thompson were just pretending to track back instead of actually helping Alexander-Arnold out in his defensive duties.

Trent stands widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world, but when it comes to 1v1 defending, he has struggled at times. Despite his impressive crossing ability and creativity in the final third, his defensive skills have come under scrutiny.

In these situations, Trent often needs the help of his central midfielder and right winger to make the most out of the situation. This is because a full-back on his own is often vulnerable to seeing himself beaten by a quick and skilful opponent, particularly if they have a lot of space to run into like in the game against Brighton.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Even though it is true that Salah and Keita could have done more from their respective positions, as a full-back, Trent’s primary duties are to defend his goal well and not let the opposition enjoy a run-through. It is clear that he is working on this aspect of his game, but still, there are many pieces of the puzzle yet to be put together.

More Liverpool News:

Trent has faced numerous instances where he had to defend solo, adding pressure to his performance. Despite his efforts, it is evident that he would have performed better with the support of his teammates. But having said that, the effort he needs to put in is of primary importance in his scenario.
