Jurgen Klopp keen to extend Anfield favourite’s stay beyond the summer of 2023

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to extend the contract of Roberto Firmino

As per Fabrizio Romano’s recent tweet, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to retain Roberto Firmino at the club beyond the Brazilian’s current deal which expires in June later this year (Transfermarkt).

Bobby is Klopp’s most used player at Liverpool and is an embodiment of the Liverpool style of play. He is ever so integral to the way the Reds play and even with a slight dip in form last season, he was putting up the numbers this year until his recent injury.

In 21 appearances in all competitions this season, Firmino has nine goals and four assists to his name. Alongside Mo Salah, Bobby is the Reds’ joint-highest goalscorer in the league. Moreover, he is just one assist behind Andy Robertson to match the team’s highest assist provider in the league as well.

Bobby to stay?

In 348 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, Firmino has scored a total of 107 goals in addition to his 78 assists. He is certainly one of the most key members of the team under the management of Klopp, and long may it continue to go.

Currently nursing an injury, the player stands expected to return to team training sometime in the next week and hopefully, his addition to the squad brings about a change in the fortunes of the team as well.

Bobby’s pressing ability up front might also help ease the pressure on the midfielders and defence to a small extent which could be great given the Reds’ shaky form in those two departments in particular.
