Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho on how Jurgen Klopp is improving him
Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, young Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho openly talked about how manager Jurgen Klopp is talking to him that is helping him improve.
After arriving in the summer from Fulham, the 20-year-old has struggled for regular game time at Anfield. He has played only 629 minutes for the senior side in all competitions so far this season.
Klopp has played him in different positions, be it on the left wing, as a left-sided number eight or as a false nine. He has looked like a player who would take some time to settle down before showing his qualities.
Here’s what Carvalho said about the manager and his improvement as a player (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“He’s always talking to me, he’s always telling me what I should be doing, what I’m doing wrong, which is just constructive criticism. That’s how you improve.”
To be fair to Carvalho, looking at how the team is performing at the moment, he would have a shout to get some time in the coming games.
They are losing games, shipping in goals and struggling to score goals game after game. We are yet to win a league game in 2023, which is not great considering we are in February now.
Even in limited game time, Carvalho has shown that he is good on the ball and can create chances in the final third. Can Klopp tinker with the system and play the 20-year-old as a number 10 – which is his position – and add more to the attacking unit? Yes, he can.
But, is it worth taking a risk to remove one of the three midfielders? Frankly speaking, we are getting overrun there even with three players. Might as well change the shape, and have two holding midfielders and four attackers in front of the back line.

If that happens, Carvalho is in for a shout to play as number 10. Either way, he can accept this season as a period of settlement for him. Another pre-season with the squad in the summer and we can expect him to fly next year.
