Dietmar Hamann says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should apologise to James Pearce

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, after the Reds’ abject 3-0 loss to Wolves in the league a few days ago, refused to answer a question in the press conference. The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce put forward a question and the gaffer made it clear that he wouldn’t answer any questions from him.

Moreover, he answered the same question put forward by another journalist. That makes one wonder about the manager’s growing fears over the interpretation of his words by a certain section of the press. Liverpool’s current performance will definitely not put the German in a good headspace.

Speaking of the same, former Red Dietmar Hamann talked about how Klopp’s behaviour was contrary to the ideals of Liverpool as a football club and insisted that the 55-year-old should rather apologize to the journalist.

Klopp apparently had a few issues with what Pearce was writing in his pieces and made it clear in the press conference as well. Anyways, here is what Hamann had to say about the situation via Daily Mail:

“It was a perfectly good question to ask him and I think the least James deserves is an apology. Liverpool is a club that is based on respect and I think someone has to tell [Klopp] ‘This is Liverpool Football Club and you can’t do this.”

“You can’t have a situation where the manager disrespects a very well respected journalist like he did to James Pearce.”

Important to understand Klopp as well

The controversy sparked when Pearce posed a question to the coach regarding his methods for preparing the players for upcoming games. It wasn’t certainly a tough question to answer, but the fact that the question came from where it did might have put Klopp off guard.

It was deemed unwise for Klopp to act in such a manner, as he shut down an individual and declared “you know why” without obviously providing an explanation or reason. This “behaviour” has resulted in heightened criticism and negative attention, despite the fact that he may have been feeling angry at the time.

Criticism is not something that is new for the gaffer, but it is important to understand his words also come from a point of thought as well. It is very easy to criticize the man for the words he speaks, but Hamann is certainly one person who is as far away as possible from Klopp’s good books due to his polarised opinions on the club under the German.
