Liverpool star attracting interest from AS Roma as Anfield exit beckons

Naby Keita ‘on verge of leaving’ Liverpool amid AS Roma interest

Guinean midfielder Naby Keita will be out of contract at Liverpool in June later this year (Transfermarkt). The 27-year-old is all but set to depart the Reds on a free transfer at the end of this campaign and the chances of the Reds extending his contract are extremely low.

Among the clubs who could sign him include Italian giants AS Roma. I Giallorossi stand linked with a move for Keita who is obviously available on a free transfer. AS Roma Live via Liverpool Echo claims that Naby Lad could join forces with Jose Mourinho’s side ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Naby surely has enough ability to attract attention from several clubs. But unfortunately, his time at Anfield has been largely disappointing and underwhelming, to say the least.

Keita on his way out

Unfortunately, the player has not lived up to the £52.75m price tag. A number of reasons outline his sad stay at the Reds including his unavailability in big fixtures. Keita was expected to bring a great deal of energy, skill, and creativity to the club’s midfield but has struggled to do so on a consistent basis.

Keita’s time at Liverpool has been plagued by injuries and he has been unable to consistently display his full potential. Moreover, even when available, the player’s inconsistencies have also contributed to him not being a regular fixture for Jurgen Klopp.

Despite the 27-year-old’s undoubted talent, one would believe that his injury-prone nature is the main reason why he is not likely to receive a contract extension at Liverpool. This, coupled with the recent reports of his potential departure, suggests that Keita’s time at the club may be coming to an end.

Moreover, even though he has not been consistent enough, Keita has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with the club as we saw last season as well. But to sum his career at Merseyside in just one word, it would be “frustrating” as the fans had a lot of expectations which he obviously didn’t live up to.

More Liverpool News:

In any case, the need for a midfield revamp will just grow after Naby departs the club. Hopefully, we could get our ideal transfer targets next summer and make a better case for ourselves as a team.
