Reliable journo hints at dream Liverpool move for in-demand Bundesliga defensive sensation

Christian Falk hints that Liverpool might consider Josko Gvardiol approach

RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old centre-back Josko Gvardiol has caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs after his top-class performances in the World Cup. Liverpool are also eyeing the player and to add to the Reds’ excitement, Gvardiol has shared in the public domain that the Merseysiders were his favourite team growing up.

Growing rumours of a summer exit for the underperforming Joel Matip coincide with Liverpool’s interest in Gvardiol. That gives rise to the possibility of the Reds’ looking at the Croatian as a long-term replacement for the possibly outgoing Cameroonian.

SportBILD’s Christian Falk believes that Premier League clubs will show interest in signing the Leipzig defender who has a contract until 2027 (Transfermarkt) at the Bundesliga side. He also spoke about Liverpool’s interest in the player as well.

Of course, Real Madrid also show interest in Liverpool targets and it is no different with Gvardiol. However, here is what Falk had to say to Caught Offside via Liverpool Echo about the growing speculation over the former Dinamo Zagreb man:

“Gvardiol has made no secret of the fact that his favourite club as a child was Liverpool and that he was always dreaming of moving there,”

“When we see what is happening at Liverpool at the moment, it’s clear they need players in this position. He’s keeping an eye on the Premier League, of course. If Real Madrid come in, it’s also interesting for him but he hasn’t offered himself to the club.”

Could Gvardiol move to the Reds?

Gvardiol is a strong, physical centre-back who is not afraid to put his body on the line to make a challenge. His aerial ability, positional sense and comfort on the ball are all qualities that have caught the eye of Liverpool’s scouts.

In addition to his defensive qualities, Gvardiol also possesses a great passing range and could provide an extra dimension to Liverpool’s play from the back. His ability to play out from the back and start attacks would be a valuable asset for Liverpool, especially given their tendency to play a high-pressing style of football.

The Reds have been in need of a top-class centre-half for some time now, and Gvardiol could provide the stability and reliability they need at the back. His presence would also give Liverpool the opportunity to rotate their defenders, which could stand especially important given the busy schedule they face each season.

More Liverpool News:

Keeping in mind Matip’s contract expires in 2024, this summer might be the last opportunity for Liverpool to cash in a decent amount of money for the player which could be channelled towards getting Gvardiol on board.
