Premier League clubs including Liverpool made aware of Neymar and his transfer situation
According to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), several of the top clubs in the Premier League have received alerts regarding the possibility of signing Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain. The 31-year-old has a contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt) at the Ligue 1 giants.
The rumours of Neymar being available for transfer have certainly piqued the interest of many Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle and Chelsea. However, from Liverpool’s perspective, it is highly unrealistic for the club to sign the Brazilian superstar.
Neymar’s high maintenance, both on and off the field, would be a significant issue for Liverpool. The player’s massive wages and transfer fee, coupled with his tendency to attract a sense of controversy, could potentially disrupt the team’s dressing room harmony.
Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp has stood on a strong team spirit and unity, and bringing in a high-profile player like Neymar could potentially upset that delicate balance. However, that doesn’t mean that the 31-year-old is the personification of controversy, it is just that there are too many eyes on the player and the Reds could avoid that.
Could Neymar join Liverpool?
Secondly, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are known for their frugal spending habits. While the club has made significant investments in recent years, including the signings of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker. More recently Darwin Nunez as well, they do not have a reputation for spending excessive amounts of money on players.
Neymar is truly, truly world-class but he isn’t a light name to have on the wage books and neither is he past his best for PSG to consider selling him for peanuts.
Neymar’s transfer fee and wages would undoubtedly be too much for FSG’s liking. Moreover, adding Neymar to the mix would create an unnecessary headache for Klopp, as he would need to balance the egos and playing time of several star players in an expanding Liverpool attack.

While the prospect of signing Neymar may be tempting, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will pursue the Brazilian superstar. The club’s owners are known for their cautious approach to spending, and Neymar’s high maintenance would likely be a significant issue for the team.
