The summer transfer window is approaching, and Liverpool find themselves in the race to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount. However, they face competition from rivals Manchester United, who are also reportedly interested in the midfielder’s signature.
According to Liverpool Echo, our “friends” from the Northwest also want to secure the services of the 24-year-old Englishman. From the Reds’ perspective, signing a player like Mount makes perfect sense. With Jordan Henderson and James Milner both approaching the twilight of their careers, the Reds need to start planning for the future.
Mount, at 24 years old, represents an ideal long-term prospect, with his technical ability and work rate making him a valuable addition to any team. The player has struggled to gain form at Chelsea causing a stall in his contract talks this season. His deal expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Mount’s versatility in midfield is something that Liverpool could benefit from. The Englishman is comfortable playing in a number of different roles, from a deeper-lying playmaker to an attacking midfielder. This could provide Klopp with the flexibility he needs to adapt to different opposition and tactical setups.
However, Liverpool faces stiff competition from Manchester United, who are also in the market for a midfielder this summer. Hopefully, we do not have to convince Mount a lot for him to join Liverpool.
Nevertheless, Liverpool also have other targets on their radar, with Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham also in our sights. The young Englishman has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, and his technical ability and work rate make him a perfect fit for Liverpool’s style of play.
Even though the Reds have Jude on their radar, Mount’s pursuit might come at a cheaper price compared to Bellingham and hence, it is important for the Reds to make proper priorities when it comes to signing midfielders, which in itself should be a huge priority for the team.
