Liverpool handed injury scare by 23-year-old star for Real Madrid clash

Darwin Nunez hands Liverpool injury scare ahead of Real Madrid UCL clash

Somewhat mid-way in the second half of Liverpool FC’s clash against Newcastle in the league earlier today, an over-enthusiastic Darwin Nunez challenged Kieran Trippier for the ball resulting in both players falling over.

However, Darwin’s landing was far from soft as the rains made it extremely slippery and the weight of the tumble suspected fell on his right shoulder which we could see Darwin was nursing throughout the rest of the time he spent on the pitch (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo ensured that the Reds just needed to keep it tight at the back. A well-deserved 2-0 win, but Darwin’s probable injury situation could put the Reds into a sense of anxiety given the crunch game against Real Madrid on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League round-of-16.

Hopefully, it is nothing serious, and the fact that he was taken off the pitch soon after the incident might help reduce the impact it could potentially have had otherwise. Given we just had Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota return from their respective injury spells, it is certainly not ideal that another one of our forwards slips into one.

Could Darwin miss Madrid?

More so ahead of potentially the toughest game of our season so far. Real Madrid in the Champions League is always a tough fixture and who knows it better than the Reds? Liverpool haven’t won against them in their last six meetings in the competition.

It is very crucial to head into that fixture with as much squad depth as possible. The 23-year-old is back into scoring ways after getting his goal against the Magpies and his pace could be extremely beneficial against Madrid.

In the end, whether or not Darwin Nunez is fit to play in the upcoming Champions League clash is just one of many factors that will ultimately determine the outcome of the game. Hopefully, the Reds tick all other boxes.

Nothing official yet on the situation, god willing, it is just a minor knock.
