According to the Evening Standard (h/t Liverpool Echo) Liverpool are leading the race for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount ahead of Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

There is uncertainty surrounding Mount’s future at Stamford Bridge with only eighteen months left on his current contract at the club.

It is claimed that talks regarding a new contract extension have not been fully positive between the player’s camp and Chelsea with the player demanding to have his new contract in line with the club’s highest earners.

This has alerted other top teams about the possibility of signing the England international with Liverpool leading the race in case a contract extension is not agreed upon.

Mount, at 24, still has a lot of football left in him and with 127 Premier League appearances already under his belt, he has the desired experience that could potentially help us in the coming seasons.

Moreover, Chelsea have spent a fortune under new owner Todd Boehly and hence would be in a position to recoup some revenue through sales to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

The added competition for places in Chelsea’s squad is also another consideration which Mount would see as a factor in renewing the contract or not.

A young English talent who always gives a shift and rarely gets injured would be an ideal acquisition for Jurgen Klopp and company who would not be done by with the style of play at Liverpool.
