“Liverpool have been linked”- Fabrizio Romano believes Napoli star will leave this summer

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Liverpool’s links to Napoli star Piotr Zielinski

Liverpool have been linked with Piotr Zielinski long before he joined SSC Napoli from Udinese Calcio on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016.

According to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, those links are resurfacing again. He believes that Napoli and Zielinski are fully focused on winning the Serie A title, where they have a 15-point lead at the top of the table after 23 league games.

But after that, the Poland international could leave the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. He wrote in his column for CaughtOffside (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Liverpool have been linked with Piotr Zielinski for a long time, since 2013 I think. We’re seeing those links again, but my understanding at the moment is that there’s nothing concrete. “It’s almost impossible for agents, players or directors to discuss players’ futures with Napoli as they are 101% focused on the final part of the season.

“There is no interest in talks, contracts, or transfer plans. They have Serie A to win, they have the Champions League to focus on, and nothing is decided. “Still, my personal feeling is that Zielinski in the summer will have a good chance to leave.”

It is safe to say that Zielinski is an elite midfielder capable of contributing on both ends of the pitch. He can run around for the full 90 minutes, create chances for his teammates, and do the dirty work in defence when needed.

At the age of 28, the Polish central midfielder has reached his prime years and still has a lot left to give to the game. His contract with Napoli is set to enter its final year once the current season gets over (Transfermarkt).

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho Tavares have been tragic this season. James Milner is old, while Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are injured most of the time. Stefan Bajcetic is good but he needs time to unfurl his potential.

More Liverpool News:

Zielinski can be a very good signing in that regard. He is talented, is of a good age profile, and will bring much-needed fresh legs to the centre of the park for us. Hopefully, a Serie A win this season brings his chapter to a close in Italy, after which we can perhaps push for a cut-price deal given his contract situation.
