PSG identify Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as Lionel Messi replacement

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have ‘identified’ Liverpool star Mohamed Salah as a replacement for Lionel Messi if he were to leave next summer, according to journalist Rudy Galetti (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Talks have already taken place between the Parisians and the Egypt international’s representatives. However, it remains to be seen whether their talks will move any further.

At the moment, the 30-year-old is tied down to the Reds until the summer of 2025. Only last summer, the forward put pen to paper on a new deal and extended his stay with the Merseyside outfit.

Messi made his way to PSG in the summer of 2021 after leaving Barcelona. The 35-year-old’s current contract with the Parc des Princes side expires at the end of the current campaign (transfermarkt).

Apart from the 2022 World Cup winner, the Parisians have the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at their disposal. However, Christophe Galties does not have a lot of quality on the bench for the attacking areas, with Hugo Ekitike in the ranks.

Messi has not been at his absolute best with PSG. However, in the current campaign, the 35-year-old has been better than in his debut season in France.

Salah has struggled in the current campaign. While the Egyptian has 19 goals and nine assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, something seems to be missing from his game.

With the departure of Sadio Mane last summer, the 30-year-old has had to form new partnerships with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. Unfortunately, the Reds have struggled to achieve a lot of positive results.

Even though Salah’s performances have gone down a notch, he is still the Merseyside outfit’s talisman. Hopefully, Jurgen Klopp’s team will be able to fend away PSG and keep hold of the Egypt international in the coming months.
