Former Liverpool star John Aldridge calls Naby Keita a liability for his display against Crystal Palace

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita had a forgettable outing in the goal-less draw against Crystal Palace, as he was guilty of giving the ball away too many times and committing one foul too many. The Guinean international’s performance was one of the low points of Liverpool’s lacklustre display in the game.

The 27-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Liverpool since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2018. Injuries have been a major issue for the midfielder, with Keita struggling to stay fit for prolonged periods. Even when he has been available, Keita has struggled to live up to the hype that surrounded his arrival at the club.

Former Liverpool star John Aldridge put out a Tweet criticising the former RB Leipzig midfielder for his below-par performance against Patrick Vieira’s side and also spoke about the player’s uncertain future at the club.

The game against Crystal Palace was a reflection of Keita’s struggles at Liverpool. He looked off the pace throughout the game and gave the ball away too easily on several occasions. He also committed four fouls (stats from FotMob) in just the one half he featured in, one of which could have led to a red card on another day. It was only right that Jurgen Klopp took him off at half-time.

Tough times ahead for Naby

Keita’s lack of form and fitness has put his future at Liverpool in doubt, with reports suggesting that the club will part ways with the midfielder this summer at the end of his contract. If Keita does leave the club, Liverpool will need to replace him with a player of similar or better quality if they are to compete at the highest level next season.

Despite his struggles at Liverpool, Keita remains a talented player with the potential to make an impact at a top-level club. However, it is clear that his time at Liverpool has not been a success, and both the player and the club may be better off if they part ways this summer.

For Liverpool, the focus now will be on finishing the season strongly and securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. The draw against Crystal Palace was a disappointing result, but the Reds still have a chance to salvage their season with a strong finish in the coming weeks.

As for Keita, his future remains uncertain, and it is unclear where he will be playing his football next season. Whatever happens, it is clear that the midfielder will certainly need to rediscover his form and fitness if he is to fulfil the potential that he showed earlier in his career.
