Emmanuel Petit has suggested Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher to join Tottenham Hotspur
As quoted by Irish Mirror, French great Emmanuel Petit has urged young Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to join Tottenham Hotspur and cement his legacy.
Spurs could be looking to sign a keeper in the summer as Hugo Lloris (36) is not getting any younger and his contract expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt). Backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster isn’t a long-term option anyway.
Kelleher, on the other hand, is probably the best backup goalkeeper any club could boast. The Ireland international is unlucky that Alisson Becker is ahead in the pecking order at Liverpool. We know the Brazilian is the best goalkeeper in the world. Hence the 24-year-old only gets sporadic games to show his quality.
Here’s what Petit said (h/t Irish Mirror):
“Caomihin Kelleher should consider a move away and a club that he would fit in perfectly is Tottenham.
“Hugo Lloris is 36, he has had a few injuries and has retired from the national team – he is not the future anymore.
“(Fraser) Forster is also 34, so Tottenham may need a refresh in that department.
“Kelleher is 24 years old. In the cup fixtures last season, especially against Chelsea, he was really good.
“If he wants to cement his own legacy, he should leave and join Tottenham.”
As much as we want Kelleher to stay and come in when Alisson is injured, it is tough on a player who wants to play every game. The other aspect to it is that the Irishman will be one of the best keepers in Europe if he leaves Liverpool and starts playing regularly.
As quoted by Liverpool Echo in December, the 24-year-old himself stated that he would be looking to move elsewhere in the coming summer. The club should not stand in his way when the right offer comes.
The only thing here is the fact that Liverpool shouldn’t sell him at a cheaper price. Based on talent, age and what he has done in a handful of games for the Reds, he should be rated at a higher price level.

Adrian could also leave in the summer as his contract is expiring (transfermarkt). It means that Liverpool will need to be in the market for a backup goalkeeper. It would be interesting to see who we sign to bolster this department.
