Liverpool have been given a boost with Manchester United defender Raphael Varane a doubt for the Merseyside Derby
According to Mail Online (h/t Liverpool Echo), in a boost for Liverpool, Manchester United could be without their first choice centre back Raphael Varane when the two teams meet at Anfield on Sunday.
It is claimed that Varane is suffering from leg pain and a proper assessment of whether the Frenchman would be able to feature would be done in the first half of the day.
United are still hopeful that the defender will befit for the important game but have placed Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof on standby in case Varane is declared not available for the game.
For us, it is definitely a major boost if Varane is deemed unfit for the game and gives us an added advantage heading into the game. Varane alongside Lisandro Martinez have done exceptionally well for United and are easily their first-choice partnership for United.
On the other hand, there is an apparent disparity if one of them does not feature with their deputies in Maguire and Lindelof are not of the same standard. We would get more knowledge of it in the coming hours and with Varane’s injury concerns in the past, there is a good likelihood that Erik ten Hag does not risk him.
It is a fixture, which is deeply rooted in the history and traditions of the Premier League, and its importance of it has only grown over the years.
However, for the first time taking into account the past few seasons have united looked this strong and it would definitely be an eye-catching fixture for the neutrals. For us, it is pretty important to carry on the good form shown recently and aim for the maximum points in our bid to bolster the top four hopes.
