Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about Real Madrid after Manchester United thumping

After the Reds defeated Manchester United in great fashion, the levels of confidence within the Liverpool squad would certainly have doubled. Jurgen Klopp would be a pleased man to see his team beat an in-form squad and that too, 7-0.

With the Reds in such top-class form, obviously, the thought of facing Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League at Madrid, on a three-goal deficit after the 5-2 loss at Anfield two weeks ago in the Round of 16 tie would have come across. However, the manager remained focused on the next game. Here is what he told the club’s official website about that aspect:

“Didn’t think for a second about that. Really not. It is just not important. We have to see who is available for that game. Now we have to make sure we bring the boys all in a top shape to Bournemouth and then we can think about Madrid.”

The Reds face Bournemouth away next. Liverpool beat them 9-0 at Anfield in the reverse fixture and that would boost their morale heading into the game against Gary O’Neil’s squad on 11th March.

Klopp’s statement highlights the mentality and philosophy he has instilled in his team: one of discipline and focus. While the victory against Manchester United was undoubtedly a morale booster, Klopp’s refusal to dwell on the past demonstrates his belief that his team must remain focused on the next challenge.

Top-class form for the Reds

This approach has served Liverpool well in the past, and there is no reason why it should not continue to do so. The upcoming Champions League match against Real Madrid is by no doubt, a crucial fixture for Liverpool.

The first leg ended in a 5-2 defeat for the Reds, leaving them with a significant deficit to overcome. However, Klopp’s approach suggests that he is confident that his team can turn the tie around.

Liverpool had a tough time against Real Madrid last time around.

However, the recent return of Diogo Jota and the form of Fabinho has provided a much-needed boost to the squad, and Klopp will be hoping that he can get his key players back for the crucial run-in.

While Klopp appeared uninterested in drawing confidence from the 7-0 victory against United, there is no doubt that the result was a significant morale booster for the team. Liverpool has a tough task ahead of them in the second leg against Madrid.
