James Milner drops Liverpool future hint after Chris Kamara advice

Liverpool star James Milner runs out of his contract at the club later this year in June (Transfermarkt). Milly has been a stalwart figure at Anfield ever since he arrived at the club in 2015. Despite being 37 years of age now, Milner has shown no signs of slowing down and has expressed his desire to continue playing for the Reds, while also contributing off the field as well.

Milner’s commitment to the club is exemplary, and his dedication to maintaining his fitness levels at this stage of his career is something that younger players can look up to. He has become a massive figure in the dressing room and stands regarded as a role model for younger players.

As Liverpool are currently going through a transitional period, Milner’s experience and leadership qualities are more important than ever. Injuries to key players this season at Liverpool has been a major problem to deal with, and Milner’s versatility has been crucial in filling in various positions.

Speaking after receiving his MBE recently, here is what he had to say about his future via Liverpool Echo:

“I think everyone you speak to Kammy [Chris Kamara] he was saying you should play as long as you can.

“I feel very fortunate to be playing at an amazing club like Liverpool, in an amazing team that I’m playing with. I feel like I can still contribute and I feel good physically the majority of days so I’ll keep working hard.

“I just want to keep contributing to a massive club like Liverpool and hopefully make an impact both on and off the field.”

However, as the Reds look to rebuild and plan for the future, it is worth considering the role that Milner could play off the field as well. Given his vast experience and knowledge of the game, Milner could be an ideal candidate for a coaching role within the club.

As the Reds look to bring through the next generation of stars, having someone like Milner to guide and mentor them would be invaluable for the young stars. He is the most experienced campaigner at the club, and it is tough to see beyond him for a role like this.

Of course, Milner’s desire to continue playing cannot be ignored, and if he feels that he can still contribute on the field, then the club should look to utilize his talents as much as possible. However, there may come a time when Milner’s body is no longer able to cope with the demands of professional football, and at that point, a coaching role could be the perfect way for him to continue his involvement with the club.

Milner is a massive figure in the Liverpool dressing room, and his commitment and dedication to the club are unparalleled. He has already spoken about the fact that he has a keen interest in coaching, and as the Reds look to rebuild and plan for the future, having someone with his experience and knowledge within the coaching set-up could be invaluable.
