Manchester United to rival Liverpool for the signature of Mason Mount
According to the Guardian, Manchester United to rival Liverpool for the signature of Chelsea star Mason Mount after accepting their fate in chase of Jude Bellingham.
The report states that United are among the clubs in the race for Bellingham, but fear that they will be priced out if they use the bulk of the transfer funds to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
While Bellingham, who is a primary midfield target of Liverpool, could cost around £130m, Mount is believed to be available for something around £50m. Newcastle United have also recently joined the race for the latter.
The 24-year-old has been linked with Liverpool for some time as well over the last few weeks. It is revealed that the Reds are highly likely to sign him in the summer after his contract tug-of-war with Chelsea.
It would be interesting to see what happens when United show serious interest in the England international.
Despite not being in the greatest of forms this season, we know that Mount is a quality player who would add great value to any team in the attacking midfield department.
Liverpool are in need of a midfield overhaul in the summer. So, even if they sign Bellingham, they could do with two-three more additions in that department. It would be great if one of them is Mount.
With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave Anfield once their contract expires in the summer, getting Mount would add legs, genuine quality and versatility from midfield. Just like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mount works well when playing centrally, but can do a job in wide areas too.
