Florent Malouda urges Mason Mount to stay at Chelsea amid Liverpool links
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is one of Liverpool FC’s top transfer targets alongside Jude Bellingham. The 24-year-old midfielder runs out of contract at Stamford Bridge in 2024, and with no signs of a contract extension, the player has stood extensively linked with a move to Merseyside. The Reds are also in real need of midfield reinforcements.
With the growing age of Jordan Henderson and James Milner alongside players like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain almost certain to leave the club in the summer, there is an imminent need for young proven players, and nobody checks these boxes better than Mount.
Amid growing links between Mount and Liverpool, former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda urges the Cobham Academy graduate to stay at Chelsea and grow with the club instead of moving to a rival.
Speaking to DAZN Bet via Liverpool Echo, here is what the Frenchman said on the prospect of Mount joining the Reds in the summer:
“I don’t think Mason Mount should leave Chelsea. It should be part of your mentality and spirit that when you’re at a club like Chelsea, there is strong competition. Mount is like the DNA for Chelsea, he loves the club. When you look at his performances since he got into the first team, playing lots of games for club and country, it’s normal that physically you need to recover and regenerate.”
Could Mason move to the Reds?
Liverpool are in need of a midfielder who can provide creativity and a goal-scoring threat, and Mount fits the bill perfectly. He is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions, including as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder. His work rate and defensive abilities also make him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s pressing style of play.
An almost like-to-like replacement for Jordan Henderson, even though Hendo is going nowhere, the players are very similar in how they play. Both have a great engine on them and work rates both offensively and defensively are top-notch.
While it remains to be seen if Mount will actually leave Chelsea, his potential move to Liverpool could be a game-changer for both clubs. For Liverpool, Mount’s arrival would add a new dimension to their midfield, while for Chelsea, it would be a significant loss.
Despite the potential suitors, Chelsea will undoubtedly do everything in their power to keep Mount at the club. He has proven to be an integral part of the team, and his contributions have played a significant role in their recent success.
