Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about positive scouting at the club
Under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, apart from obviously growing the club on the pitch, the German gaffer has been instrumental in selecting the right players to arrive at Liverpool Football Club and it has been showing in performances as well.
Especially, in attack. The arrivals of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have only stood overseen due to the right scouting. Especially in the case of Jota, who arrived at the club aged 24 back in 2020 for a fee worth £45m.
The player, possibly at that time, was not as famous as Timo Werner, who also stood linked to the Reds at that time but time has proved Liverpool right as Jota is extremely clinical in front of goal, and has been great for Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking of how effective the club’s scouting has been in recent seasons, here is what Klopp had to say via Liverpool Echo:
“For Cody, it went really quickly. His contribution is obvious – same for Darwin and Luis, Diogo. Scouting can never be perfect but you only really know a player when they are around, but we were really spot on in these moments.”
Excellence in Scouting at the Reds
Diaz joined after Diogo, in the January transfer window of 2022 for a £37m fee and he has also been a revelation since. He’s been out of action since October, and the club dearly miss his presence in the lineup as he brings something totally different to the other attackers at the club.
Darwin and Cody are very recent signings as anyone would know, but they are starting to find their feet at the club as well. The pair of 23-year-olds are extremely promising and hopefully, they get going at full throttle sooner than later. Gakpo only joined this January for £35m whereas Darwin was a summer signing for £64m.
Liverpool’s scouting team, led by Michael Edwards and now Julian Ward, has been instrumental in identifying these players and bringing them to the club. The success of these signings, some of which are impending, has been a testament to the team’s scouting and recruitment strategy.
Apart from these players as well, our top-class scouting has helped us bring in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson just to name a few who have nothing less than a legendary status at the club.

The team’s success has been largely due to the quality of its scouting system. The club has a team of dedicated scouts who are constantly searching for the best young talent from around the world. Hopefully, that continues after the departure of Julian Ward at the end of this season as well.
