Inter Milan are showing interest in Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is a subject of interest to Inter Milan.
Keita is in his final year of the contract at Liverpool and there are chances that he may not be offered a new deal as Jurgen Klopp plans to revamp the midfield for the upcoming season.
Hence, he would potentially be available on a free transfer come the summer transfer window and Inter are looking at this possibility with the club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio known to be a big admirer of the Guinea captain.
Keita moved to Liverpool in July 2018 and the move was met with a lot of excitement and hype as the player had performed exceptionally well at his former club RB Leipzig.
However, down to a sustained period on the sidelines due to injuries plus the form of many key players, Keita was never able to hold down a starting place in the first team and has always been in and out of the squad.
Now, this season has been disastrous from the very go and the only hope for us is that we have a top-four finish come the end of the season.
It has also laid bare the deficiencies in the squad which Jurgen Klopp will be keen to rectify. From the looks of it, Keita is perhaps not in his plans given how less he has been played this campaign even when fit and available.
There is no doubt of the ability that the player possesses and maybe a different league and a different environment bring the best out of him. It would be a shame that it didn’t work out here for him.
Perhaps the weight of the No. 8 shirt and the tag of being the next Steven Gerrard from fans got to him. But it was probably his fitness issues that stopped him from reaching the heights he was expected to reach.
