Former Liverpool hero Djibril Cisse says fans deserve better than a top-four finish
Liverpool Football Club is one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football. The passionate fan base and rich history of the Reds have always held high expectations for the team to perform at the highest level. However, this season, the team has faced a lot of challenges, with injuries and a lack of form hampering their progress.
As the season draws to a close, Liverpool finds themselves fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League. While this would be a significant achievement for the club, former star Djibril Cisse believes that the fans deserve more than just a top-four finish.
Cisse has stated that for the players, the squad, and the manager, a top-four finish is not enough. Liverpool should be aiming higher than that, given the quality of their team. While securing a top-four finish from this point onwards would show the mental strength of the team, it would not be enough to satisfy the expectations of the fans.
Speaking to Lord Ping via Liverpool Echo, here is what Cisse had to say on the Reds’ top-four pursuit this season:
“If Liverpool finish in the top 4, it will show their mental strength. However, for the players and squad we have, top 4 is not enough for the fans, the team or the manager and Liverpool should have done better.
“It will be hard for Liverpool. If they play at the level that they should, they can make a surprise comeback. It will be hard but not impossible.”
The Reds can certainly make the top-four
Liverpool fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and they have always demanded excellence from their team. They have supported the team through thick and thin and have been rewarded with some of the greatest moments in football history.
Liverpool should be aiming to win trophies, not just secure a top-four finish. The team has the talent and the resources to compete at the highest level, and anything less than that would be a disappointment. The fans deserve to see their team playing at the highest level, challenging for trophies, and competing with the best teams in Europe.
While it is true that Liverpool faces a tough challenge to secure a top-four finish this season, they have shown in the past that they are capable of achieving the impossible. The team has a never-say-die attitude and has the mental strength to overcome any obstacle that comes their way.
The road ahead will not be easy, but Liverpool has what it takes to surprise everyone and make a comeback. The team should aim for nothing less than excellence and should strive to make their fans proud.
