Outgoing Liverpool director Julian Ward in pole position to join Ajax Amsterdam
According to Dutch outlet AD (h/t Liverpool Echo), outgoing Liverpool director Julian Ward is said to be in pole position to take up a new role at Ajax for next season.
Ward’s departure at the end of the season was already confirmed. However, his decision to move to Ajax and become their new sporting director is something that seems surprising at least on the surface level.
Ward is highly regarded within the club and has been a key figure in their recent success. He was instrumental in bringing in players like Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Fabinho, who have all been crucial to Liverpool’s recent triumphs.
Along with Michael Edwards, he has been responsible for identifying and signing some of the best players in the world. Finding a suitable replacement will be difficult, and Liverpool will have to move quickly to ensure that they don’t fall behind their rivals in the transfer market.
The director of football role at Ajax is also highly respected within the football industry. The person in this position is responsible for overseeing the club’s overall strategy, including recruitment, youth development, and the first team. They work closely with the head coach to ensure that the team is set up for success both in the short and long term.
Given Ward’s track record at Liverpool, it’s not hard to see why he would be a good fit for this role. He has a keen eye for talent, an ability to work collaboratively with others, and a deep understanding of what it takes to build a successful team.
In the meantime, Liverpool fans can take comfort in the fact that the club is still in good hands. Jurgen Klopp remains at the helm, and he has shown time and time again that he is capable of achieving great things with the players at his disposal.
However, the Reds have a lot of work to do to improve the squad and make themselves competitive again. This season has been shambolic, to say the least and tough calls are required in the transfer market.
