Mainz midfielder Anton Stach open to summer move with Liverpool linked
According to Sky Germany (h/t Liverpool Echo), Mainz midfielder Anton Stach is open to leaving the club in the summer amidst links with Liverpool.
Liverpool were linked with Stach last month, along with fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old has a contract at Mainz until the summer of 2024, with an option for another year (Transfermarkt). He wants to make a move after the end of this season with a view to getting selected in the German squad for the 2024 Euros in his home country.
The former Werder Bremen youth player is a midfielder who can operate in any position in that department. This season though, he has played most games as a defensive midfielder, mostly in a double-pivot.
Stach is a physically strong player who does not shirk away from duels. He is an excellent passer of the ball, has good pace to cover the ground and reads the game well defensively.
In the Bundesliga this season, the 24-year-old has won 60% of the total duels contested, which is a great return. He has also made key passes at the rate of 1.1 per 90 [Sofascore].
We know that Liverpool are in for a midfield overhaul in the coming summer window. They could do with three or four additions in that department with some leaving and some getting old.
Jude Bellingham is the primary target, but the Reds need more than that. As a defensive-minded player, Stach could be a good budget option for Jurgen Klopp.

The German can come and provide the necessary support to Fabinho in the defensive midfield position. At 24, he still has the time and room to further improve his game under the manager of the same country.
