Liverpool ‘interested’ in Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri

Rewind to last summer. Liverpool FC lost a forward mainstay in Sadio Mane, and have had it a bit tough since. Coming back to the present day, one more of our mainstays in Roberto Firmino will leave the club in the summer and that leaves a significant void. Liverpool, in an attempt to fill the gap, might look to recruit Youssef En-Nesyri.

The club has lost a significant amount of attacking prowess in the last season, with the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino also heading out of the club, and the Reds long for depth in all departments. Even though the attack seems the least important of all issues, it is an issue for sure.

According to Fichajes via liverpool.com, the Reds may look to ‘take advantage’ of Firmino’s decision to leave by seeking a deal for En-Nesyri, in whom they have an interest. The Moroccan striker has a contract until 2025 (Transfermarkt) with Sevilla and could cost any suitors around the £30m mark. 

The player has a knack for scoring goals out of nothing, like a certain Belgian we had at the club until not so long ago. The 25-year-old has 47 goals and three assists in 139 appearances across all competitions for Los Nervionenses.

Could the Reds get the Moroccan?

Moreover, the fact that Sevilla are in financial turmoil of sorts and are having a tough time keeping up in La Liga so far, it would be interesting to see the developments in regard to En-Nesyri’s transfer situation.

From a personal viewpoint, the Moroccan international is a solid purchase for a backup player. Even though he is not a player the Reds could go all-in for, it would be wise if the Reds keep an eye out for him, and make an attempt or two to get him at Anfield, obviously for the right price.

His left-footedness could give Jurgen Klopp the option to put him on the right flank to deputise for Mohamed Salah as well. Given we have Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo to go through the centre of the pitch, En-Nesyri could find himself on either flank more often than not.

In any case, he could prove to be a solid investment for the Reds, but we should beware not to overspend for a player who plays in the forward line as we have just enough players in that department right now.
