According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea would demand a fee in the region of £60m-£70m for Liverpool target Mason Mount.
Mount, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), is yet to sign a new deal with Chelsea. A few days ago, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that there is a big valuation gap between both parties and the player could be sold in the summer.
Liverpool have had an interest in the 24-year-old for some time now. Manchester United have joined
the race, while Newcastle United are in the mix too.In terms of wages, Mount is currently one of the lowest-paid players in the Chelsea squad. He wants the wages of his new contract to reflect his status in the squad. It seems like that is not going to be possible in west London.
Despite an underwhelming season, the England international is one of the most talented players in the league. He was one of the best players for Chelsea in the last two seasons. So, the current dip in form should not decide his fate as a player.
With Liverpool hoping to undergo a midfield reshuffle in the summer, Mount could be a shrewd addition at the price tag quoted. The 24-year-old can operate as one of the number eights and add energy, attacking threat and a high work rate.
His versatility means he could be used as a number 10 or as a false nine in some games. We have seen him play on either wing too, although that is not his favoured position.
If Chelsea decide to sell Mount in the summer, Liverpool will face competition for his signature, as mentioned above. For that reason, the Reds should try and complete the deal as soon as the player is confirmed to be available for buying.
