Three Premier League clubs interested in Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), a three-way Premier League battle is ensuing for soon-to-be out-of-contract midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool.

Ox, as he is famously called here at Anfield has fallen out of favour in the team and is no longer being picked by Jurgen Klopp. The Reds have shown absolutely no inclination to renew his deal at the end of this campaign.

Injuries have really haunted the 29-year-old and prevented him from reaching his true potential. He has shown flashes of his incredible talent and Jurgen Klopp has put a lot of trust in him in the past but it all seems to be coming to an end.

Brighton, Southampton and Leicester City are the three clubs said to be interested in signing the English footballer. The Seagulls signed Adam Lallana in a similar arrangement from us and they could after Ox too.

What could have been?

Ox did not come cheap. We shelled out £35m back in 2017 to bring him to Anfield from Arsenal and except for a few flashes of brilliance, he has largely disappointed. Despite being a fan favourite, it’s time to let him leave.

The English midfielder initially settled in pretty well into the team. He scored eight goals and provided three assists in 43 appearances across all competitions in Liverpool’s title-winning 2019/20 campaign.

It’s been very clear for some time now that Liverpool need a squad overhaul in the summer. Especially in midfield, there are too many players who don’t seem to have it in them to play for Liverpool henceforth.

As much as such decisions hurt, sometimes, brutal calls need to be taken in order to keep the club competitive. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one such player who is set to be on his way out of the club but he will not be alone.

Liverpool will no doubt be planning to sign at least two quality midfielders in the summer transfer window and need to make space in the squad for that. We can thank Ox for his services to the club and wish him the very best going forward, except when he plays against us!
