Manchester United and Liverpool want Anderlecht goalie Bart Verbruggen
According to Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
The talented Dutch footballer has been having a very impressive season in Belgium. The 20-year-old shot-stopper has been catching the eye due to his assured performances in goal for Anderlecht.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag are said to be ‘charmed’ by the player. When top managers like the aforementioned duo are interested in a player, it shows that the player has quality.
However, it is being claimed that Anderlecht are not at the very least interested in considering a sale of the player. When clubs like Liverpool and Man United come calling though, it’s difficult to say no.
One for the future?
There are absolutely no doubts about who Liverpool’s first-choice shot-stopper is. Alisson Becker is one of the very best goalkeepers in the world and will continue being our first name between the sticks for the foreseeable future.
Caoimhin Kelleher, a young goalie who is playing as the backup option is extremely talented. He has impressed every single time he has played in a cup competition and promises to be an exciting player.
However, Kelleher could seek a move away from the Reds in favour of regular game time. This could open up a slot for a reserve goalkeeper and maybe Verbruggen can play that role for a few years.
However, the same issue is likely to crop up a few years later. Goalkeepers generally struggle to break into the first team. Hence, the 20-year-old might prefer to remain in Belgium and hone his skills rather than take a bench role here.
