Ben Jacobs: 21-year-old Bundesliga star is “on Liverpool’s list for sure”

Ben Jacobs says Josko Gvardiol is ‘on Liverpool’s list for sure’

Josko Gvardiol is on Liverpool’s transfer shortlist for the summer window, as per CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, who exclusively gave his comments to GIVEMESPORT.

The Croatia international joined RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2021 as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Koante, who had joined Liverpool. Gvardiol has already claimed he dreams of a Liverpool transfer.

The Reds are apparently eager to fulfil the 21-year-old’s ‘dream’. Jacobs said:

“Gvardiol is one of the names on Liverpool’s list for sure, and they’ve been tracking him very seriously over the course of the last few months.”

As per Eurosport, the centre-back’s release clause stands in the region of 110million Pounds. That is an audacious amount of money – one that we should only spend if we really need a guaranteed first-team player.

Go for it

We have Joe Gomez and Joel Matip at the back but the two have shown with their injury record in past seasons and their form this term that they are not really at the highest of levels. Virgil van Dijk is arguably the best defender in the world, while Konate is an able partner for him.

When fit, those two make for an elite partnership. In all honesty, the Netherlands international tends to make his partners look good, but Konate can hold his own.

Nevertheless, they aren’t immune from injuries while VVD is in his 30s. This could be the right time to sign a replacement for him, although the former Southampton star can still play several years of football at the top level.

Gvardiol can make for great competition in defence but we should pursue him only if we offload one of our current first-team centre-backs and if we have enough money set aside to sign at least two world-class midfielders this summer.

Otherwise, we can live without the 2022 FIFA World Cup Bronze medallist.
