Jude Bellingham to Liverpool looking increasingly unlikely by the day
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein writes that Liverpool Football Club’s chances of getting on board primary transfer target Jude Bellingham seem increasingly unlikely as the days go by. The primary reason for this is the fact that the Reds will in the most likely of situations, end this season without any silverware and the threat of finishing outside the top four still looms over Jurgen Klopp’s head.
It will obviously be a major blow for the Reds if their pursuit of the 19-year-old fails. Bellingham, over the last three seasons, has pretty much been the club’s primary transfer target. Ever since his move to Borussia Dortmund back in 2020, the Reds have kept an eye on his development.
Moreover, compared to the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid who also see themselves linked with a move for Bellingham, the Reds are pretty much impotent when it comes to financial strength. The managers at both these clubs have a lot more backing from the higher-ups than Klopp at Liverpool.
The Reds’ pursuit of the former Birmingham City man certainly won’t come for cheaper than £131m as per The Athletic’s valuation of the player back in November but in any case, that could prove to be a lot of money for the Reds to spend on one player.
Bellingham blow for the Reds
But as things stand, Liverpool’s recruitment team will need to rearrange their papers and start from scratch again as the chances of the player the team have obviously observed for so long are in the hanging.
Hopefully, things in terms of the Reds’ likeliness to get the player on board change for the better and we see Jude wearing the Liverpool jersey at Anfield sooner than later. Our midfield with Jude could completely change the way we play, and the player could bring about a much-needed positive change at the club.
However, at the end of the storm, there is a golden sky. There are other midfielders who stand linked with the Reds as well, and even though they perhaps do not possess the European pedigree that Bellingham does, these players could be extremely cost-effective and help the Reds build a strong side.
The likes of Mason Mount, Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves among others are still on the Reds’ radar, and hopefully, if not Bellingham, the Reds can get their hands on some of these players, who are quality additions in themselves.
However, the owners should back the manager to get the top talents from across the globe to play for the Reds instead of settling for second or third-choice transfer targets. In case we fail to get Jude, that would completely be on the owners’ incompetence to provide the resources to the people in charge.

The owners need to recognize the importance of backing Jurgen Klopp with the necessary financial resources to compete with other top clubs in the transfer market. Without such backing, Liverpool could struggle to keep pace with their rivals and may struggle to maintain their position as one of the best teams in Europe.
