Liverpool eye summer move for Stanislav Lobotka and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Jurgen Klopp could rebuild his Liverpool midfield with a double swoop on Italy’s Serie A, according to reports. Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could make their way to the Reds at the end of the season.
Reports in Italy from Calciomercatoweb via Liverpool Echo suggest that Liverpool is weighing up transfer moves for Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Both players are talented midfielders who would add depth and quality to Liverpool’s squad.
A number of midfielders like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even James Milner are almost certain to leave the club at the end of this season as their contracts expire, the Reds will find themselves extremely short on depth, and the starters need a lot of competition given their inconsistencies this season.
Lobotka is a versatile midfielder who can play in a variety of positions. He is known for his passing range and his ability to read the game. The Slovakian international has been a key player for Napoli since his arrival in 2020 and has shown that he can adapt to different systems and styles of play.
Serie A swoop in the making for the Reds?
Lobotka would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s midfield, providing cover for Fabinho and Henderson and allowing Klopp to rotate his squad without losing quality. The primarily defensive midfielder has 101 appearances for Napoli.
Milinkovic-Savic, on the other hand, is a more attacking midfielder. The Serbian international has been a standout performer for Lazio in recent seasons. Milinkovic-Savic would provide Liverpool with a different dimension in midfield, allowing Klopp to experiment with different formations and tactics. The 28-year-old has made 338 for Lazio since joining in 2015.
Liverpool’s midfield has been a source of concern for some fans in recent months. With Wijnaldum gone and no replacements for him in over two years, Liverpool’s midfield lacks the depth and quality needed to compete at the highest level.
While Thiago, Henderson and Fabinho have been excellent, injuries have exposed Liverpool’s lack of options in midfield. Milinkovic-Savic and Lobotka would provide Liverpool with the reinforcements they need to compete in the Premier League and in Europe. Both combined would cost the Reds a total of £87m with Lobotka costing the Reds £43m of that.
