Liverpool in ‘pole position’ to sign Wolves star Matheus Nunes
Football Insider via Liverpool Echo claim that Liverpool are in pole position to land Wolverhampton Wanderers’ central midfielder Matheus Nunes on board at Anfield next summer.
The player has been a Reds transfer target for quite a while, and actually saw himself extensively linked with a move to the Reds before he made the decision to join Wolves from Sporting CP earlier this year in the summer window.
Moreover, according to the same sources, the Reds are willing to engage with the player’s agency Gestifute for a potential deal. Notably, Gestifute saw themselves involved in the transfer of Darwin Nunez to Liverpool from Benfica as well.
Besides, with growing concerns over primary transfer target Jude Bellingham and the high price tag that he might come with, it is wise of the Reds to look at Nunes as an option, as he could prove highly cost-effective.
Midfield certainty for next summer at Anfield
There is absolutely no need to run through why the Reds need midfielder reinforcements this summer, as the results are enough proof as to why the midfield depth is one of the biggest issues Jurgen Klopp currently faces, and has to tackle effectively, as well as efficiently.
Moreover, with the recruitment department not completely new to analysing the style of play of Nunes, he could prove to be a good fit for the Reds. The 25-year-old Portuguese international has one assist in 29 appearances for the Midlanders this season and will want to ramp up those numbers.
In addition to the obvious inconsistency of the midfield, Liverpool’s squad is also ageing. With key players such as James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Thiago all in their thirties, the team needs to start planning for the future.
New midfielders who can bring fresh energy and ideas to the team are essential in ensuring that Liverpool can remain competitive in the long term.
