Liverpool ‘most likely destination’ for Chelsea star Mason Mount
Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Anfield is the most likely destination for potentially outbound Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount. The 24-year-old sits contracted to Chelsea until 2024 (Transfermarkt) and the talks for a new deal have stood at a standstill for quite a while now.
With the talks for a new deal heading absolutely nowhere, the player could in all likelihood be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, which could give the club a substantial fee as well, given this is their last big chance to cash in on the Cobham Academy Graduate.
Jurgen Klopp certainly needs a midfield reshuffle at the club to sustain Liverpool in the long term and propel the club towards where we actually belong. This season has been far from satisfactory and we need new signings like Mount to get the club back on track.
Speaking on TalkSPORT via Liverpool Echo, here is what Crook said on Mount’s potential Anfield move:
“I think Liverpool. Obviously Jude Bellingham has been their top target for a while. It wouldn’t surprise me if Jude Bellingham actually ends up signing a new contract at Borussia Dortmund with a release clause.”
“Contract talks (between Mount and Chelsea) have been at a standstill for some time. And I think Liverpool is his most likely destination.”
Mount to Liverpool almost certain?
Speaking of the Reds’ difficulty to get Bellingham on board due to his high transfer fees, Crook said Mount could actually move to the Reds. Liverpool, are obviously in a transitional period as Jordan Henderson and James Milner are not spring chickens any more.
Moreover, Fabinho has been extremely inconsistent and Thiago is injury prone. Curtis Jones doesn’t make the cut yet. Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are on the learning curve. Besides, Naby Keita will depart the club with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the most likely of situations at the end of the season.
That leaves the squad with little to no depth to compete with. Bringing in a player like Mount, who is Premier League proven, has won the Champions League with Chelsea and has plenty of other accolades could be extremely beneficial for Liverpool.
With his top-class work rate which is an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp and his style of play at Liverpool, he could certainly grow to become extremely vital in this midfield reshuffle at the club and establish himself as one of the squad’s core players.
