Manchester City hold Erling Haaland injury ‘belief’ for Liverpool encounter
It is not controversial to say that Liverpool’s chances of beating Manchester City, at least on paper, drastically go up if Erling Haaland is not playing.
The Norway international has scored a staggering 42 goals in 37 games for the Cityzens this season, and he doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. He scored six goals in his team’s 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League last week.
Haaland followed it up with a hat-trick against Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals. What is scary is that he played just 63 minutes each in both those games and bagged nine goals in total.
Hence, when news broke that Erling Haaland was forced to withdraw from international duty with an injury, Liverpool fans would have hoped that he was also sidelined for the Premier League clash between the two teams at the Etihad on 1 April.
City could have Haaland back
However, according to Liverpool Echo, City ‘believe’ Haaland could be fit in time to take on Liverpool in Manchester in what could be a huge game for the Premier League title race.
A win for City here would pull them back in the title race with Arsenal, who currently lead them by eight points having played one more game. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Cityzens slyly kept Haaland in England to preserve him for the remainder of the season.
Of course, he could still have a nasty injury that can rule him out for several weeks. But if he starts against Liverpool, one would imagine if City were wise to keep him at home for the entirety of the March international break.

Haaland has played against us thrice this season, winning just once, which came in the EFL Cup fourth round earlier this season at Anfield. His team lost the PL encounter at Anfield 1-0 after losing the FA Community Shield to us last summer by a 3-1 margin, where he infamously missed a sitter in the closing stages of the game.
