Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expected to leave the club in the summer

As expected in the most likely of situations, there has been no change in Liverpool FC’s stance with midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the 29-year-old will leave the club at the end of this season, when his contract with the Reds expires.

As put out on Twitter by noted football Journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Ox will leave the club as a free agent. His time at the Reds, even though successful from a trophy cabinet perspective, has not been great for Ox from a personal point of view.

The problem with the player is inconsistency. Even though fairly impressive whenever given the opportunity, Ox’s injury-prone nature has kept him out of the squad for long durations which has obviously been a big hindrance in keeping his career going and has caused a lot of barricades, denying him a proper run of games.

The Ox to leave?

A fan favourite due to his appealing nature and the fact that he is often on the club’s social media handles because of his presence in front of the camera, it is a pity that his playing career with the Reds did not reach the heights either party would have hoped for.

In 145 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, Ox has 18 goals and 15 assists to his name. He has missed a total of 88 games for the Reds due to various injury issues, and after his ACL injury in the 17/18 campaign, he failed to get back to his previous levels.

One thing is certain. The summer of 2023 is one for change at the club and the Reds will need to bring in loads of midfielders to compensate for the number of midfielders also leaving the club, which includes the likes of Naby Keita as well.

Liverpool’s midfield has been a key component of their success in recent years, and Jurgen Klopp will need to find suitable replacements for Oxlade-Chamberlain and other departing midfielders.

The Reds will obviously be looking to strengthen in the transfer market, and they will need to identify players who can contribute immediately to the team’s success. With the right signings, Liverpool can certainly continue to compete at the highest level and maintain their status as one of Europe’s top clubs.
