Rhys Williams’ future at Liverpool in doubt

Liverpool are apparently willing to listen to offers for Rhys Williams, with the 22-year-old defender’s time at the club seemingly coming to an end this summer. Williams has had a mixed time at the club’s senior squad, and his future with the club now appears to be in doubt. (h/t ECHO)

Williams’ time at Liverpool has stood marked by several highs and lows, including a successful loan spell at Kidderminster Harriers, where he impressed with his composure. However, his fortunes changed when he returned to Liverpool, where he struggled to make an impact in the senior team.

In the summer of 2020, Liverpool suffered a defensive crisis, with injuries to key players forcing the club to turn to Williams to fill the void. Williams made his debut for the club in September 2020, and while he showed flashes of promise, it was almost certain that he wouldn’t remain among the first-choice defenders upon the return of the regulars from their injury layoffs.

Despite these setbacks, Williams continued to work hard and improve his game, and in August 2021, he was sent on loan to Swansea City to gain more experience. The Reds recalled him halfway into the season at that time.

Time up for Williams?

What followed was another loan spell at Blackpool from July 2022 to January 2023. Williams did not play for Liverpool’s senior squad in the gaps between the loan spells and hasn’t played any games for the Reds ever since his return to Merseyside as well.

With Liverpool’s defensive options hopefully bolstered in the summer, Williams’ future with the club now looks uncertain. The Reds are reportedly willing to listen to offers for the defender, and a move away from Anfield could be on the cards.

While Williams’ time at Liverpool may be coming to an end, it is clear that he has a bright future ahead of him. Despite his struggles at times, Williams has shown that he has the talent and determination to succeed at the highest level as we saw in 2020.

Whether Williams remains at Liverpool or moves on to pastures new, it is clear that he will continue to work hard and give his all for whichever club he represents.

And as far as the club is concerned, the Reds for sure need to bolster all departments of the squad to pose a better threat to titles and win silverware next season and beyond.
