According to Liverpool Echo and its sister website, Liverpool are seriously interested in signing Chelsea star Mason Mount on a cut-price deal this summer.
Mount, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), is yet to agree on a new deal with the west London club.
Chelsea delayed fresh negotiations until the summer as they did not want the team and Graham Potter to get distracted. The recent update
on it was the gap in valuation between both parties, leading to a greater possibility of the England international leaving his childhood club. Moreover, Football.London has revealed that the Blues want Mount to sign a seven-year deal. The player is not happy about the length of the contract.
If Chelsea decide to sell the 24-year-old this summer, they would demand around £50m, which is lower than what the current market would price him at. A young English midfielder with great quality and versatility is definitely worth more than that. But, Chelsea may not have much power to ask for more as his contract expires in 2024.
Although Mount has had a quiet season this time around, he was one of Chelsea’s best players in the last three seasons. His availability is an underrated trait too.
Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp could do with a technically sound player and a willing worker in central midfield. The England international would provide all of that to go with his prowess in dead-ball situations.
At the price quoted, the Reds won’t get better players than Mount. We hope that his contract situation doesn’t get sorted at Chelsea and we splash the required cash to sign him in the summer. He could be a great under-the-radar (compared to the Jude Bellingham hype) signing for us.
