Liverpool target Jude Bellingham chats with Steven Gerrard after England win

Following England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers, Liverpool target Jude Bellingham headed to a post-match chat with Channel 4 wherein he met club icon, Steven Gerrard. Jude was fantastic in both games for The Three Lions this international break, playing a significant role in their win over Italy a few days ago as well.

Following the 2-0 triumph at Wembley on Sunday evening, the duo engaged in an enlightening interview. It was great to see Stevie chat Jude up and talk about how the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is one of the best in the world at the moment.

Stevie also talked about how Bellingham is much better than Gerrard himself was at that age and spoke about attributes that make Jude’s style of play so different and set him apart from the other players of his age group.

Here is what Gerrrad had to say about Bellingham and how the former Birmingham City midfielder is much better than Stevie at that age (h/t ECHO):

“Well, for one he’s got a better body than what I had at 19, no seriously, I probably never had that power and that strength until probably 22 or 23, so he’s definitely more physically developed than me. He’s more confident than me on the ball in terms of what he’ll try, and I’m not just saying that just being modest, I’m saying that as it’s the truth – I think he’s further on than what I was at 19.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I got to where I wanted to get to and he’ll naturally get to where he wants to if he keeps on doing what he’s doing, but he’s in a fantastic place and everything else around him he just needs to park it up and keep playing well and everything else will take care of itself.”

Agent Stevie for the Reds

Liverpool fans have been keeping a close eye on Bellingham’s progress and have been hoping that the club can secure his services in the future. With his exceptional performances for Dortmund, the 19-year-old has established himself as one of the most promising talents in world football.

Bellingham’s impressive performances for England have only served to increase his reputation further, and a section of the fans are now left wondering what could have been had the club managed to secure his signature in the summer itself. With Liverpool’s midfield lacking depth and creativity, Bellingham would have been a perfect addition to the squad. But there is the summer of 2023, which could see the Reds make plenty of signings, and hopefully Jude.

Stevie’s comparison is certainly noteworthy, considering Gerrard is one of the greatest midfielders in the history of English football. The youngster possesses all the attributes required to succeed in Liverpool’s midfield, with his energy, tenacity, and technical ability making him an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s high-pressing system.

Bellingham’s versatility and ability to play in multiple positions across the midfield would have also given Klopp more options and flexibility in his team selection. Moreover, who better than Gerrard to campaign for the Reds in the transfer market?
