Borussia Monchengladbach’s 21-year-old French midfielder Manu Kone finds himself on Liverpool FC’s transfer radar. The central midfielder has been a great find for the German side and in 54 appearances for them in all competitions, Kone has four goals and two assists.
Kone is an extremely versatile midfielder and can play defensive midfield roles apart from his natural central midfield position. The Reds are among a number of teams including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United showing interest in Kone.
Liverpool’s scouts have taken notice of his performances and have earmarked him as a possible acquisition for the club. Kone is an adaptable midfielder with an impressive skill set in passing, dribbling, and defence in particular. He recently spoke about his future amid his links with the top clubs mentioned earlier and here is what he said via Fabrizio Romano’s Twitter.
“Interest of PSG? You know that I am Parisien, I was born and trained here. There is a logical link. But whether it’s Paris or another club doesn’t matter to me. I just want to play. If I have to leave, I’ll think about playing as priority.”
Liverpool’s interest in Kone is in line with the Reds’ idea to bring in young midfielders who can obviously play a part in the Reds’ long-term future. With midfielders such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Thiago all over 30 years old, Liverpool is in need of younger players who can take over when these experienced players retire.
Kone would be a great addition to Liverpool’s midfield as he has the potential to become a top-class player in the future. He possesses the technical ability to play in Liverpool’s high-pressing style and has the energy to cover the ground in midfield. He is also comfortable playing in a variety of positions, which would be a huge asset to Liverpool’s squad depth.
Liverpool obviously has a history of developing young players into top-class footballers. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane, and Andy Robertson are just a few examples of players who have grown with Liverpool and have gone on to become key players for the club. Kone could follow in their footsteps.
The Reds are known for their high-intensity style of play, which obviously requires players to have a good work rate and be comfortable on the ball. Kone possesses these attributes and would fit in well with Liverpool’s style of play.
He would also benefit from working under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, who has a reputation for developing young players. With Liverpool certainly in need of younger players who can play a part in the Reds’ long-term future, Kone would be a valuable asset to the club
Should Liverpool successfully sign Kone, it would mean another talented young player added to their squad, and this would bring a positive outlook for the club’s future.
