Kostas Tsimikas in doubt to be available for the Manchester City clash
Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas is in doubt to be available for the key clash against Manchester City this Saturday.
Tsimikas went off very early during the international friendly game against Lithuania. It was revealed that he had a sore rib on the day. The latest report says he had an issue with the back.
Despite those revelations, the Greek international was seen with the first-team training squad on Thursday afternoon. Whether he just warmed up and got back to the gym, we do not know. But what it does is shows that his injury is not that serious.
Tsimikas’ availability would be key in the coming games as we have three very tough games in eight days – Manchester City (A), Chelsea (A) and Arsenal (H).
Either he plays one of those games or Andrew Robertson gets rotated out for the Leeds United game that follows this trio.
Irrespective of that, the 26-year-old must be available all this while, giving Jurgen Klopp an option to rotate at left-back if needed. He has also been a brilliant addition to the team whenever he was brought on the pitch.
Tsimikas has been an able deputy for Robertson since he arrived in 2021. He is obviously not at the level of the Scotsman yet but has his qualities to offer to the team – especially top crosses into the box.
A few weeks ago, there were rumbles that the club may sell him in the summer. His current contract at Anfield lasts until 2025 (Transfermarkt). Let’s hope that he stays on and be that competitor to Robertson at left-back.
