Pundit says Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk could ponder Liverpool exit without Champions League football

Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk could think about moving on from Liverpool says Robbie Fowler

The fact that Liverpool are far away from a UCL spot and the threat of not qualifying for the competition still looms over the heads of everyone at the Reds could possibly make the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk think about their future at Merseyside as per Robbie Fowler.

‘God’ wrote in his column for The Mirror after the Reds’ loss 4-1 to Manchester City in the Premier League. Starting the game in sixth place on the points table, the Reds currently find themselves in the eighth spot with only 11 games left in the season.

While the Reds can still obviously qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, the threat of not getting through obviously looms large over the heads of everyone at the club. Fowler expressed his concern and spoke about how the big guns at the club might think of not playing that competition and it could certainly be a question they ask themselves about moving on.

Here is what Fowler said in his exclusive column for The Mirror:

“I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the likes of Salah and van Dijk thought they need to be playing in the elite European competition at their age, and can’t waste a single season out of it. I’m not saying they’d want to go, but it will be a question they may ask themselves.”

Tough times ahead for the Reds?

Moreover, the financial implications of missing out on the Champions League are substantial. The competition certainly generates significant revenue for participating clubs, and the absence of this income could make it more challenging for Liverpool to compete at the highest level.

Without the lure of the Champions League, Liverpool could find it more challenging to secure the signings they need to improve the squad. It could also make it more difficult to retain current players, as they may be tempted to move to clubs that are competing at a higher level. This is what Fowler spoke about in his exclusive piece as well.

Retaining the current players in the squad could be one of the biggest challenges for Liverpool if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. The club has a talented group of players, and many of them will be coveted by other top teams.

Without the lure of Champions League football, it could be difficult to convince these players to stay at Liverpool, and the club could risk losing some of its top performers including Salah and Virgil. However, there is a feeling that the players love the club a little bit more than that and could help propel Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League table.

In conclusion, it is clear that the potential repercussions of not qualifying for the Champions League are significant. Liverpool will need to fight hard to secure a place in the competition, not just for the prestige and exposure it brings, but also for the financial stability and ability to attract and retain top players.
